Hubbard’s Packing in Preston is changing ownership after 36 years, but things are staying the same.
Owner/manager Saundra Hubbard announced this week she has sold the meat- packing business to her niece, Kris Bullock, most recently from Twin Falls. Bullock spent most of her life in Inkom and has been living in Twin Falls for the past 18 months.
Bullock and her family are in the process of moving to Preston.
“The ownership may be different, but the operation will remain essentially unchanged. We plan to continue things the way they have been. We want to let all Saundra’s customers know that up front,” said Bullock.
She said she has been involved in financial management since 1999. Her fiancée, Kurt Lish, has 18 years experience in meat cutting and has owned his own business for the past five years.
“When we heard Hubbard’s was for sale, we figured It was a natural opportunity that we just couldn’t pass up,” she said.
“We know how well the business has been taken care of over the years.” Hubbard said she and her husband, Elbert, operated a meat-packing operation in Malad for seven years before buying the Preston firm from Dave Beckstead in 1971.
“After 42 years in business, I figured it was about time to retire,” said Hubbard. “I was just going to close the plant. But I’m really, really happy that we’ve found a buyer, and that we are keeping it in the family.”
Saundra said she has customers from as far away as Big Piney, Wyo. Hubbard’s processes

about 1,000 cattle and 800 hogs annually.
“I’m not going to have much free time,” she said. “I plan to work part time managing the books at the Arctic Cat dealership here in Preston and helping with the family catering business.”
The Preston City Councilwoman said this spring and summer she also plans to personally take care of the city’s flower boxes and shade trees that line State and Oneida streets.
Hubbard’s is open Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Saturday. It is located at 807 West Oneida. The telephone number is 852-1674.

Saundra Hubbard takes a minute of her day to discuss operations with new owners Kris Bullock and Kurt Lish.
